With the semester slowly coming to a close, and summer just around the corner, it is easy to give up before reaching the finish line. Here are some tips for staying the course and finishing strong.
- Take it a day at a time
Do not focus on the last round of midterms and finals that are approaching. Forget about how many days of the semester remaining. Instead, take each day one at a time. Focus on the tasks at hand for that day or that week. Never look too far in the future, as it can become overwhelming.
- Remember your goals
It is easy to get caught up in how many semesters you have left in school, or, maybe you are graduating and that makes you nervous. Instead of spending your time worrying, remember your reason for going to college. Keep your goals in mind and never stop striving for them.
- Set aside time for studying
When your friends are all going out or relaxing in the leisure pool, it is very tempting to skip out on studying. Resist this urge. Even though it is difficult to take the time to study, remember that you only get one chance at that test. Once you make that “A” that you are striving for, chances are that you will not even consider all that time you spent studying. However, if you do not put in the time that is needed, and end up not doing well on the exam, you will regret not taking that extra time.
- Prepare yourself for finals
Preparation for finals goes beyond studying; you also need a game plan. Know your final schedule a couple weeks out, and plan in time for studying, eating, and resting. All the information in the world will not help you if your mind is preoccupied with the fact that your body is starving or you cannot hold your eyes open. Above all else, do not pull an all-nighter. As tempting as they sound, your brain will stop absorbing information once it gets so tired.
