Thoughts from Counselors

Giving Back

The TECHniques Center has been very fortunate to have those who have cared enough about the cause to support us and our students. In the Month of April the TECHniques Center was able to support other programs and charitable events.

On April 26th the TECHniques Center took part in the Second Annual March of Dimes walk that has taken place on Texas Tech University’s campus. The March of Dimes Mission is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature births, and infant mortality. This year the TC was able to raise 1,305 dollars and show our support by walking in the event with our four legged friends. Laura Casanova was our lead fundraiser raising 800 dollars for the March of Dimes. This was a great opportunity for the TC to come together both students and counselors to support and reach out to the community here in Lubbock, TX.

The Second Organization we were able to support this semester was the Burkhart Center located on TECH’s campus. The Burkhart Centers Mission is to increase the quality of life for individuals with Autism and their families by providing services, preparing educators, and conducting research. Joining the Burkhart Center in this great mission was a goal set out by one of our very own Master Tutors Rachel Traxler. With Rachel’s commitment and drive to support another great cause on campus we were able to raise 360 dollars for the Burkhart Center’s Walk for Autism . The TC staff and students donated their time to create fun games for the kids attending the walk. It was an amazing experience and show of community support to have several thousand attendees even while weathering a dust storm.

We at the TECHniques Center count ourselves blessed to have such amazing students who are willing to donate their time and money to a good cause. We are proud of the opportunities taken by our staff and students to give back to Texas Tech University and the Lubbock community. We at the TC look forward to continuing this support well into the future.
