Every year Texas Tech University participates in the State Employee Charitable Campaign (SECC). This massive state-wide fundraiser provides donations to a variety of charities and non-profit organizations across Texas. The generosity of our state employees has impacted countless lives and continues to shape the future of our community. Last year Texas Tech University System raised over $787,000! Also, Student Disability Services was recognized for “extraordinary efforts”. Since we engaged every employee in the fundraising process, we had 100% participation. The TECHniques Center is proud to be a part of this effort and we are excited to participate again this year!
We are holding multiple fundraisers this semester so that students, tutors, and counselors can all contribute to the SECC. The first fundraiser is a “Coin War” between the counselor/tutor teams within the TECHniques Center. The fun competitive environment engages everyone in the fundraising process. Placing coins in a team’s can will give that team positive points, while placing dollars will subtract points from that team. Winners of the coin war will get to pick a song that the losing team must create a lip syncing video to. All proceeds will benefit the South Plains Food Banks.
Another fundraiser that will be held will be in the spirit of Halloween. A ridiculous and slightly embarrassing Halloween costume (details to come) has been chosen and will be forced upon the “lucky” loser. Students and tutors will be able to make a small donation in order to place a vote towards the counselor they want to see wear the costume for a day.
Along with these fundraisers, each staff member at the TECHniques center has generously made a personal donation to a charity of their choice.
We are excited to see the results of our efforts for this year, and encourage everyone to participate. A big thank you to all those who have already donated!
